Our Approach

CULTURAL CHANGE

Roots & Tides is a regular series of events that transforms climate engagement through culture, arts, and storytelling. By bringing First Nations, multicultural, and local communities together in poetry nights, film screenings, bush food dinners, seasonal gatherings, performances, and music events, the program deepens connections and activates intersectional solidarity.

RELATIONAL CHANGE

By meeting people where they areβ€”culturally, geographically, and politicallyβ€”Roots & Tides strengthens relationships across First Nations, migrant, and environmental communities. Events are co-designed with First Nations and multicultural community organisations fostering cross-cultural solidarity, intergenerational learning and shared stewardship of land and water, creating networks that sustain collective climate action all year-round.

POLITICAL CHANGE

Each gathering provides clear pathways to actionβ€”from local campaigns to skills-based volunteering to mutual aid and fundraising. Through political education, storytelling, and festival activations, communities are empowered to influence policy, support First Nations and frontline-led climate justice and demand systemic change.

A CINEMATIC JOURNEY THROUGH CLIMATE SOLUTIONS

Join us at Brunswick Picture House on Sydney Road for an inspiring monthly film series celebrating First Nations, Pacific and Asian cultural knowledge, storytelling and climate leadership. Each evening is hosted by one of our inspiring campaign partners and features a variety of hopeful, solutions-focused films that weave together First Nations and multicultural perspectives and ancient knowledges organised around three key themes:

🌳 FORESTS & TREES
Tues 30 June, 6.30pm - 8.00pm

🌊 OCEANS & ISLAND HOMES
Monday 20 July, 6.30pm - 8.30pm

🌱 FOOD & SOIL
Monday 24 August, 6.15pm - 8.30pm

This initiative is organised by 350 Melbourne in solidarity with Our Islands, Our Home, Protect Larrakia Country, Asians for Climate Solutions, SAPNA South Asian Climate Solidarity, Living Knowledge Network and the Pacific Climate Warriors.
