Roots & Tides is a seasonal series of events in Naarm (Melbourne) that transforms audiences into climate advocates through culture, arts, and storytelling.

We focus on bringing First Nations, multicultural, and local communities together in poetry nights, film screenings, bush food dinners, seasonal gatherings, performances, and music events that cultivate love for people and the planet and give back to the lands and waters that nurture us.

Roots & Tides events are co-designed with First Nations, multicultural and community organisations fostering cross-cultural solidarity, intergenerational learning and shared stewardship of land and water. Each gathering provides pathways to ongoing climate action—from getting involved in local campaigns to skills-based volunteering, mutual aid, political education and advocacy.

Since we launched this program in May 2026, we have hosted:

• Three sold-out cinema nights at Brunswick Picture House featuring short films from Wurundjeri Country, Larrakia Country, Wagga Wagga Country, Torres Strait, Aotearoa, Fiji, Tuvalu, India, Palestine and Singapore in partnership with Asians for Climate Solutions, Sapna South Asian Climate Solidarity, Living Knowledge Network and the Pacific Climate Warriors

• A 220 person sold-out storytelling event with Blak & Bright literary festival featuring Laniyuk (Larrakia, Kungarakan, Gurindji, French), Leah Manaema Avene (Tuvaluan & Irish) and Te Raukura O’Connell Rapira (Māori and Irish) making the connection between gas exports on Larrakia Country to gas imports in Taranaki, Aotearoa and the climate impacts on Tuvalu

• Three native grass, wildflower and tree planting workshops with over 200 people in collaboration with Merri-bek council and Fawkner Food Bowl
